In recent weeks I’ve been following @cliffreid and his tweets about emergency medicine and it reminded me of this amazing talk from 2013 that I found so inspiring then, and still do so today. I also had a patient that I met recently who was really, really sick and this talk reminded me of what was possible and that we can do what is needed when things get really gnarly. I had Cliff in my head at the time and it really made a difference. That prompted me to re-listen to to this wonderful talk which still has many truths today..
There is no doubt that times have changed, but the essence of this talk remains. If you have 30 mins I’d really love it if you’d watch this talk and let me know what you think.
Personally I still love what we do, despite the problems that we face. if we could sort crowding out it would be a lot better, but the core of what we do, and the difference we can make to patients and families still inspires me.
Cliff is over in the UK soon and will be running a critical care in the ED course. If you can go I’d certainly recommend it.
