Next April, the RCEM Annual Conference comes to Manchester, and I’d really like to encourage colleagues from across the UK, and especially our friends and colleagues from around the world, to come and join us.
The new RCEM video below captures something important about Emergency Medicine. Ours is a specialty that has always learned by sharing ideas: between professions, between departments and increasingly between countries. Some of the most interesting developments in Emergency Medicine are happening because we look beyond our own systems. We can learn an enormous amount from how colleagues elsewhere approach resuscitation, crowding, major trauma, education, pre-hospital care, global health and the many other challenges we share.
The RCEM Annual Conference 2027, at Manchester Central from 13–15 April 2027, is an opportunity to bring that community together.
There is a great programme developing, with clinical Emergency Medicine, research and education at its heart. I’m particularly pleased to see EM without borders amongst the themes, exploring disaster response, global health emergencies and Emergency Medicine in different settings.
That said, for me, conferences add their most value when can meet someone from another part of the UK or the world, and discover that they have solved a problem you’ve been struggling with. They’re about sharing research, challenging established practice, finding collaborators and building friendships that continue long after everyone has gone home.
And, of course, you’ll get to visit Manchester, which is an fantastic city. We have a fantastic Emergency Medicine community here, a city with an extraordinary history of science and innovation, great music, culture, football, food and pubs, and we’re looking forward to showing it off.
Last year’s RCEM conference welcomed colleagues from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Saudi Arabia, India and elsewhere. In 2027, I’d love to see even more international attendees. So, whether you’re coming from Manchester, Madrid, Melbourne, Mumbai or the Middle East come and join us in Manchester. Abstracts submissions are open now.
