Preparation · History and safety

Agree supervision and any communication or chaperone support before starting. Use a consenting partner for comfortable, non-traumatic assessment, with a couch and neurological equipment. Trauma and meningism components are verbal safety discussions. Use a model or supervised demonstration for unfamiliar provocative tests.

Ask the candidate

How would you present your findings and their significance? Report the pattern across tone, power, reflexes, sensation and gait rather than a sign in isolation. New/progressive neurological findings need prompt review; trauma assessment and imaging decisions need the responsible clinician.

What would you do next, and why? Explain the important uncertainty, a relevant next assessment and when help is needed. State what you could not assess.
